The 5am Club (Sort Of)

I'm not suddenly someone who gets up at 5am and runs 10km before work.

Let's not get carried away.

Although I do occasionally get up at 5am.

Just not to run. (For the record, I can run)

Usually, I'll get in the car and head to the beach.

And yes, I still have to go to work afterwards.

There's something about being at the beach that early that I really love. It's quiet, there's hardly anyone around and you get to watch the world wake up.

The sky starts changing, people start appearing with their dogs, the first few runners come past and suddenly there's a bit more going on.

Then, before you know it, it's properly morning and I actually have to go and get ready for work so that I can afford to live in Perth.

I don't think I ever would have done this in York.

For starters, finding a coffee at 5am would have been a challenge in itself. And realistically, the weather probably wouldn't have encouraged me to be sitting on a beach first thing in the morning either, that I didn't live 5 minutes away from the ocean.

Here, it's different.

There's something about being able to leave the house early, grab a coffee and sit by the ocean before work that still feels slightly ridiculous to me.

In the best possible way.

I'm not sure I'll ever become a proper morning person, some days I'd rather take the extra hour in bed, mostly in the Winter because yes, Perth gets bloody COLD.

But I do quite like being part of the 5am club.

Just without the running.
