Things in Perth That Make Sense
Three years in, I've realised Perth has its own little set of rules and somehow, I've just accepted most of them.
1. Cheaper fuel on Tuesdays.
Because apparently Tuesday is the day we all collectively decide to fill up.
2. Shops closing at 5pm.
Unless it's Thursday, when they treat us to a wild 9pm close.
3. Free parking at the beach.
Makes sense.
4. Having a BBQ instead of a roast.
Family gathering? BBQ. Friends coming over? BBQ. Basically, if in doubt, BBQ.
5. BBQ sauce instead of HP Sauce.
This one took some getting used to.
6. Açaí for breakfast.
Completely acceptable. Possibly encouraged.
7. Buying a sausage sizzle at Bunnings.
You went in for a lightbulb, a drill and some paint. You came out with a sausage in bread. (all for a good cause)
8. Drive-through bottle shops.
The fact that you can drive through a bottle-o still makes me laugh. (A store where we buy alcohol, no you can't just buy it from the supermarket)
9. Sand being part of your life.
In the car. In your bag. In the house. In places it shouldn't be.
10. “Let's grab a coffee.”
Which usually means coffee, a walk, a catch-up and potentially dinner.
11. A 20 minute drive being “just around the corner.”
Perth has definitely changed my perception of distance.
One of my favourite things.
13. Finding a tiny café in a completely random suburb.
And somehow it's absolutely thriving.
14. Flip-flops being called thongs.
& thongs being called G-bangers, don't hate it.
15. Going to the beach without making it a whole thing.
No big plan. No packed lunch. Just… go.
16. Free dog poo bags everywhere.
We don't like dog shit.
17. Walking around barefoot.
And nobody bats an eyelid. Not even slightly.
18. Kmart.
If you know, you know.
